Cherry Wood

North American Cherry is the closest match to the European Cherry wood many people are familiar with, and it’s widely valued for its versatility and quality. In fact, it’s often used even more extensively in North America due to its availability and excellent working properties.

One of its big advantages is how stable and easy it is to work with. Cherry timber has low shrinkage, meaning it moves less as it dries, and it seasons without much difficulty. This makes it a reliable choice whether you’re tackling a home project or working on a professional build.

In appearance, it’s very similar to European Cherry, with a straight grain, smooth, even texture, and a warm reddish-brown tone that deepens beautifully over time. It is slightly lighter in weight—around 580 kg/m³ when dried—which can make handling and installation a bit easier.

Because of these qualities, North American Cherry is used across a wide range of applications. You’ll find it in engineered flooring, high-quality furniture, cabinetry, musical instruments, and detailed joinery work. Whether you’re crafting something by hand or specifying materials for a larger project, it’s a dependable and attractive timber to work with.

Cherry Timbers are available cut to size at both of our timber merchants in Brentwood, Essex and Snetterton, Norfolk for collection or UK delivery.
