Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® and proud members of the Timber Trade Federation, we not only promise exceptional quality but also the peace of mind that comes from knowing your timber is sourced with integrity.

Trust in our decades of expertise to deliver not just timber, but a legacy of unparalleled service and commitment to the future.

Here are some of the ways in which we hold ourselves to the highest standards for our environment:

Responsible Purchasing Policy

At E.O. Burton & Co. Ltd., we are committed to responsible and sustainable timber sourcing practices. Our Responsible Purchasing Policy outlines our approach to ensuring the legality and environmental integrity of the timber we supply.

Management Structure

We have appointed a Director to oversee the implementation of this policy, and we regularly discuss relevant environmental issues at the highest level of management. All employees involved in timber purchasing are made aware of the policy and receive appropriate education and training to ensure its full implementation.

Responsibility

We recognise our responsibility to the environment, our customers, suppliers, and staff to base our commercial activities on well-managed forests.

Timber Trade Federation Code of Conduct

We are committed to the Timber Trade Federation Code of Conduct and apply the Environmental Code of Practice to all our wood procurement activities.

Legality

We are committed to purchasing all timber from legal sources and will seek evidence of compliance from our suppliers to ensure they are operating in accordance with the laws of their country. We condemn illegal logging practices and stay informed of international processes and changes in legislation.

Endangered Species

We will not trade in timber species prohibited under Appendix 1 of the CITES legislation and will obtain the appropriate documents for trade in all other CITES-listed timber species.

Traceability and Supplier Monitoring

We perform a Risk Assessment on all our suppliers, as documented by the Responsible Purchasing Policy. This assessment seeks to provide the clearest practicable information regarding the sources of raw material used in the manufacture of our wood products. This information is factored into our purchasing decisions and made available to independent verifiers upon request.

Timber Certification

We support international efforts to improve forest management, including the development of credible timber certification schemes. We recognize that independent certification of forests and the process chain is the most useful tool for providing assurances that the timber comes from legal and well-managed forests. We will only accept or use labels or certificates that include environmental or sustainability claims if they are supported by publicly available standards, developed in a fully participatory, transparent, and objective manner, and backed by independent inspection.

Avoid Boycotts

We will not encourage boycotts or bans on specific species of timber. However, we will cease to purchase any timber and timber products whose supply is in breach of the Timber Trade Federation Code of Conduct and, in particular, the Environmental Code of Practice.

Continuous Improvement

We are committed to working with relevant trade organisations, NGOs, and governments to develop our purchasing policy. We are dedicated to continuously raising the proportion of timber and timber products that originate from legal and sustainably managed forests, in accordance with a stepwise approach.

Reporting and Audit

We will report annually to appointed auditors, who will assess and verify our progress and compliance under this policy. A copy of our Responsible Purchasing Policy Company Commitments will be available to all stakeholders upon request.

At E O Burton, we are committed to promoting sustainable practices and responsible purchasing when it comes to timber. We understand the importance of protecting our environment and ensuring the long-term viability of our forests. This page aims to provide you with information on our responsible timber purchasing practices and the positive impact it has on the environment.
